There were billions of human beings on the planet, and most of them didn’t even speak a word of english. They spoke to machines, they spoke through machine, you could say they lived through machines. Even when they listened to music, it was most of the time only recorded music, that was made like food according to the taste of the season by people with no talent whatsoever. If they ever loved someone apart from their own image on a screen, it had to be only one person, and they would systematically make children together.
They are other animals, sugar, and deadly chemicals that made them nervous, agressive and slow. Sometimes a football game was broadcast, and entire nations would just sit at home and go through very strong emotions just watching it. Everything was big, ugly and homogenous : the houses, the roads, the landscpaes.
There was no night because they had electric lights on all the time. They used petroleum and atomic energy for thousands of other strange purposes too. They really liked plastic, they put plastic everywhere.
They believed some supernatural entites arbitrarily made the rules of physics and social life. They lived in an almost poetical delirium where fantasy, whim and mass movements made them take completely irrational decisions, constantly putting their lives and the lives of others in jeopardy. They went to war in the name of peace, and to work in the name of happiness.

Silly Old Days :
I was wasted at the charity
I'd begun at home with Dorothy
That lock of hair and your charming ways
Brought back memories from silly old days
It was good you had to blow your nose
Cause i was getting a little too close
Anyway you wouldn’t wanna kiss
A bearded smoker on the lips
Silly Old days
The guests were all so full of shit
I thought i'd entertain you a little bit
Did you notice the shape of that sugar lump
We are all children who just grew up
Could you get a drink for me
I like the e in whiskey
I’m thinking of my four hundredth blow
Anyway you wouldn’t wanna know
I sat down and started snoring
The music and the people were so boring
You tousled my hair and touched my chest
You whispered "bye" and you just left
Somehow i got home to find Dorothy asleep
As peaceful and soft to touch as a sheep
I thought, anyway, you wouldn’t wanna be
Cuddling here with me
Rich Country Education :
What do you like ? Who do you love ?
Did you pick what you are thinking of ?
Sit for a minute where you are
They say "run", you say "how far ?"
For instance, think of economy
Compare to growth ideology
There is no doubt, no question
I’m speaking of rich country education
They fed you some serious dope
Called it faith, called it hope
Now it is running in your veins
And you’re going around taking names
They nailed, the strangest thoughts into your head
They say "you’re not dead" where you’re dead
They didn’t even hide their intention
I’m speaking of a powerful deception
The future as near, it is now
We know exactly why and exactly how
There will be wars, and people taking sides
And more comedians leading crowds
There will be lives at stake
And there will be money to make
Call it a cost, a flaw, a malfunction
I’m speaking of manslaughter and destruction
Don’t Leave Me :
When i first saw you, don’t leave me
I knew it was you, don’t leave me
My jaw dropped, don’t leave me
And time stopped
Just imagine, don’t leave me
The magic, don’t leave me
I wasn’t just me, don’t me
There was more to see
Oh how do you want me to even think
For a minute, a second, a eye blink
Of living in this world without you
I have a lot of friends and a powerful hand
I get more love than i can stand
But they don’t mean a thing if i haven’t got you
When i eat the food, don’t leave me
And the food is good, don’t leave me
I feel the taste, don’t leave me
But it’s all a waste
If you’re not around, don’t leave me
If there isn't the sound, don’t leave me
Of your dear voice, don’t leave me
Your clear voice
Six On The Clock :
It is big what you bring to a day
And it’s big how you show me the way
And it’s big how i think about you
An it’s huge if you love me too
It’s six on the clock and i’m burning
I’ve been up since five in the morning
I know it’s precious, i know it is gold
To have someone like you to hold
So if the sky is clear and the bench isn’t wet
I’ll be waiting here for you at sunset
As long as i’m with you, all is well
Let sit and watch the world go to hell
At the thawing of the snow when it melts
And you leave me for somebody else
I’ll write a book, and i’ll be up late
It’ll be long but, wait, it’ll be great
And through the storm, the thunder and the rain
I won’t go crazy, i won’t go insane
I'll shiver and shake, maybe
But i’ll be strong, just as you made me
Halfway Home :
I’m only halfway home
A lot of me is unknown
I’ll take whatever
For worse and better
We're close, as the crow flies
Don’t look too deep into my eyes
I like it more when i am the puppeteer
But i’m glad you came and i’m glad you’re still here
If you get tired of my touch
I'll watch you go, and i promise i won’t cry much
Eventually i’ll find someone
And make good use of her time
When you get tired of my smile
I’ll disappear in style
I’ll drop out of sight
And call it a beautiful night
Traveling People :
Traveling people are beautiful
They travel because they don’t like borders
They’ve never been to traveling school
They don’t follow leaders, they don’t take orders
Their world is real, their world is material
If it wasn’t, they wouldn’t need to travel
They're on a side of love and peace
They spit on the flag and fuck the police
Traveling people are beautiful
They travel because they need to get away
They can't get themselves to play by the rule
Sometimes they travel cause they just can’t stay
They only believe in what they can touch
Their minds are too sharp and they know too much
They say "screw law and propriety"
They are a menace to society
Traveling people are beautiful
They travel because someone love them somewhere
That person is patient, that person is cool
They think of them often because they care
They don’t speak the language, they smile when they’re glad
Inside a side pocket, they keep a notepad
With beautiful memories all written down
This one's a name, and that one's a noun
Beer In The Fridge :
She showed me the world as she saw it
She told me her truth and i went for it
Now i’m a big boy, now i’m ready
And she is coming to visit me
I even have a place now where i make my own food
Stop by sometime, i'll cook you something good
But be a good guest, and please leave early
If she is coming to visit me
She is coming to visit me
She’ll find me at home cause that’s where i’ll be
I’ll be available, i’ll be free
Cause she is coming to visit me
I’ll think of a story that’s never been told
There’ll be beer in the fridge, and the beer will be cold
I’m already talking, i’m already thirsty
Cause she is coming to visit me
I got some records that make you wanne dance
I got four packs of six in advance
My room is tidy, it’s a sight to see
Cause she is coming to visit me
If she doesn’t come, and i end up alone
Weary and restless and drunk at home
I’ll think in my heart, "well, tomorrow maybe...
...She’ll be coming to visit me."
Tomato Juice :
Unspin your spiderweb
Unspin your spiderweb
If you’re not alive, you’re dead
Unspin your spiderweb
The prey is sadder when the hunter is meek
His pattern's out of style and his thread is weak
So come with me, i’ll get us a table
You show me your records, i'll spin you a cable
The waitress is on fire and the cook is loose
They even have water and tomato juice
We'll be young again just turn the page
Youth like wine gets better with age
Burn the canvas then watch the fame
Spray the ashes and wash the frame
It’s harder work to think than to learn
But man, it’s good, oh man, it’s fun
The fruit is squeezed, the potatoes are fried
They even make fries with ketchup on the side
The special changes every now and again
Sometimes it’s sun, sometimes it’s rain
Stupidest Summer :
It’ll be the stupidest summer
It’ll be the stupidest summer
It’ll be like a winter, only stupider
It’ll be the stupidest summer
I’ll be playing all the festival, Rockslide and Reading
But i won’t even miss a funeral,and i won’t even miss a wedding
I'll find an accordion at a prewar yard sale
And i'll leave my guitar on the docks of Marseille
I'll buy myself a dictionary of rhymes
I'll be big in Quebec, and i'll even deejay sometimes
Oliver Stone will send his love to me
I’ll wear a tuxedo and i’ll start to make money
I’ll be touring Italy and It’ll always be rainy
I'll u.i.-write one email too many
Then you'll cheat on me, and you won't even let me forgive you
And my old friend Charlie will be evolved in that too
I won’t cry because i’ll be a man
I’ll sleep with a local or two, if i can
Shave my beard on account on the Stanley Brinks mania
And I’ll cover the Doors on Piazza di Spagna
French Leave :
Look at you, sickness on your sleeve now
That’s what secrets do, when kept to long
Sounds like my cue to leave now
But I’ll be seeing you in all beauty gone wrong
All you said was true
Although hard to believe
Even i only got to know you
The night you took french leave
The daughter of a king, nobody’s princess
Did you get new nose ring or do i see a tear
The daughter can sing, but her eyes are listless
I didn’t change a thing but i’m glad i was here
You were stunning, silk-smoothy nice
You were cunning and you knew the trick
I was burning, you were Mrs. ice
I'm still learning, you did it quick
All songs by Stanley Brinks. 2007
